Role Overview
The City of Brandon is seeking a Transit Utility Worker – Level 2 to perform routine maintenance and upkeep of all transit shelters and associated facilities. This full-time position is initially a temporary term that may convert to permanent based on collective agreement conditions between the City of Brandon and CUPE Local 69. Applicants must have legal work eligibility in Canada and a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence.
Key Duties
- Maintain cleanliness and general upkeep of transit shelters, benches, and equipment, including graffiti removal and interior/exterior washing using pressure washers and cleaning tools.
- Perform grass cutting and trimming around bus stops, shelters, benches, and poles to ensure tidy surroundings.
- Operate loader and shovel snow to clear all bus stop locations to meet accessibility and safety standards.
- Monitor repair needs and communicate requirements for cleaning supplies and materials to supervisors.
- Refuel and perform basic maintenance on vehicles and tools such as trucks, weed whippers, pressure washers, mowers, and loaders.
Qualifications
- Mandatory possession and maintenance of a valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Preferred: Experience demonstrating the ability to satisfactorily perform the duties related to this position.
Work Environment and Conditions
- Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
- Engage in daily cooperative interactions with colleagues ensuring quality and self-motivation in task performance.
- Operate outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Availability required for various shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Accountable to the Manager of Transit Services.
Additional Information
This role involves handling various maintenance tasks and requires adherence to the collective agreement provisions. The job includes participation in testing and interview procedures as part of the selection process.
