Role Purpose

We are seeking a motivated Trackworker to join the Regional Assets Track team located at our Redlynch depot in Cairns. This permanent position offers stability, diverse responsibilities, and the opportunity to operate within one of Queensland’s most scenic areas, covering the rail corridor from Cardwell to Mareeba, including the Kuranda line.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct heavy manual labor including replacement of railway sleepers and routine track maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with repairing and maintaining the railway track to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
  • Perform outdoor labor-intensive duties across the region, including flood repairs and emergency response work.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols during all work activities, even under challenging weather and high-temperature conditions.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Recent background in manual handling, laboring, or Traffic Assistant related roles.
  • Capability to successfully pass cognitive and psychomotor assessments required for associated rail qualifications.
  • Possession of a Heavy Combination (HC) truck licence and excavator operator ticket is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work within regional Queensland as required.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when necessary.

Benefits & Employee Support

  • Potential annual earnings upwards of $85,000 plus 12.75% superannuation, inclusive of penalty rates.
  • 9-day fortnight work arrangement with shifts typically Monday to Friday or Monday to Thursday from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • Travel opportunities within rostered shifts with paid work time, including covered expenses and accommodations.
  • Comprehensive paid training and continual support including certification up to Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure.
  • Opportunities to acquire additional certifications, such as First Aid, High Risk Work Licences for Dangerous Goods (DG), Low Voltage Electrical Work (LF), and Working Safely at Heights.
  • Provision of all personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools necessary for the role.
