Job Objective
The Hold Baggage Screening Supervisor is entrusted with overseeing the safe, efficient screening of checked baggage to adhere strictly to regulatory protocols while identifying prohibited items or security threats. The role involves proficiency in screening technology, documentation, and collaboration with security staff and passengers to uphold high security standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all mandatory regulatory trainings and succeed within prescribed attempts.
- Operate X-BIS equipment to analyze images for detecting dangerous goods, weapons, prohibited articles, or ammunition per civil aviation security guidelines and SOPs.
- Conduct physical inspections and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) tests on baggage identified during screening.
- Maintain exemplary Threat Image Projection (TIP) scores indicating robust image interpretation skills.
- Follow BCAS and DGCA directives to ensure compliance throughout baggage handling and inspections.
- Document findings meticulously to satisfy audit and regulatory review criteria.
- Perform daily pre-operation functionality checks on security devices including X-BIS, ETD, and CT-EDS.
- Report malfunctions promptly and assist in keeping equipment operation records updated.
- Coordinate closely with CISF, airline personnel, and other stakeholders during investigations or inspections.
- Provide continuous updates to supervisors regarding operational status or security concerns.
- Complete screening activities efficiently within scheduled timelines without compromising security thoroughness.
- Demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and maintain workplace decorum adhering to organizational standards.
Interaction With Stakeholders
Engage with internal teams such as Civil Security Officers, Audit Leads, Terminal Operations, IT, HR, Compliance, and Customer Service departments. Externally collaborate with authorities including TSA, BCAS, DGCA, law enforcement agencies, local police, airport management, airline operators, and passengers.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum education requirement: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Mandatory TSA certification; preferred to have cleared BCAS Avsec basic course and certifications for standalone or inline screeners, plus DGR CAT 12 certification from a DGCA-approved training center.
- NCC 'C' or 'B' certificate holders will be given preference.
- Fresh candidates or those with 1-2 years of experience in security or related screening roles in airport environments are eligible.
- Familiarity with screening equipment operation and security protocols is expected.
Physical & Other Requirements
- Visual acuity: 20/60 or better in both eyes without correction or minimum 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with corrective lenses. Adequate color perception required.
- Hearing capacity: Not exceeding 30 dB hearing loss in each ear for frequencies under 2000 Hz.
- Effective oral communication skills are essential.
- Ability to respond quickly in crisis communications without notable speech impediments.
- Sense of smell to detect odors as security personnel.
- Must exhibit high standards of civility, appearance, sobriety, and courtesy in public interactions.
