Supervisor – Melting

Overview

This role is accountable for meeting daily melting production targets while ensuring adherence to established quality standards and production norms.

Production Management

• Plan daily production shift-wise to meet targets.
• Maintain output objectives with controlled rejection rates and quality compliance.
• Monitor ongoing production and adjust schedules as necessary.
• Manage inventory levels during the shift effectively.
• Optimize manpower utilization for the shift.
• Record and maintain shift production data including quantity produced, rejection percentage, downtime, material usage, and power consumption.

Resource Optimization

• Implement strategies to reduce operational expenses.
• Minimize downtime caused by various disruptions.

Continuous Improvement

• Apply quality guidelines and utilize tools and techniques to improve processes.
• Explore and adopt enhanced procedures to boost productivity.

Maintenance Coordination

• Liaise with maintenance teams for furnace breakdown repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Ensure proper furnace lining is maintained and completed as required.

Safety and Health

• Enforce safety protocols within the department.
• Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping standards in the work area.

People Management

• Effectively manage and engage labor workforce in the department.

Technical Knowledge Required

• Understanding physical properties and quality of raw materials.
• Knowledge of metal chemistry, microstructure of Cast Iron (CI) and Spheroidal Graphite Iron (SGI).
• Calculate charge sequences for different grades.
• Comprehend effects of inoculation and magnesium treatment in metallurgy of CI and SGI respectively.
• Recognize impact of trace elements in CI.
• Ability to interpret chill samples relating to melt quality.
• Proficient in melting process control.
• Familiarity with spectrometer and carbon equivalent meter operation.
• Experience with furnace and ladle lining and furnace overhaul.
• Manage process control parameters.
