Role overview

This position sits within the Hospital at Home service in Fife, supporting frail older adults, mainly those aged over 65, by delivering acute-level care in their own homes. The aim is to avoid unnecessary hospital admission or to enable earlier discharge when inpatient treatment has already taken place. The service gives people the chance to recover at home while still receiving appropriate medical support.

This is a great opportunity for a clinician who is interested in acute community-based care to become part of an established Hospital at Home team in Cupar.

What the role involves

The successful nurse will be responsible for providing safe, high-quality acute medical care in patients’ homes. The work requires confident independent practice, since the service relies on staff who can assess, plan and deliver care autonomously.

The role also includes responding quickly to urgent care needs, carrying out daily routine clinical interventions, and travelling across the local area as required.

Clinical expectations

Applicants should already be a registered nurse with relevant experience and should be comfortable carrying out a range of core clinical procedures. These include venepuncture, ECG recording, IV additives administration and cannulation.

Working pattern

This post requires flexibility across a 7-day working pattern, with shifts running from 08:00 to 22:00. The appointed nurse will initially be based at Adamson Hospital in Cupar, but cross-team working may be needed to support wider service demands.

Application notes

AI tools such as ChatGPT or Copilot may be used for planning or proofreading, but your application answers must be written in your own words and must reflect your genuine experience and motivation. Applications that appear to rely on AI-generated content may be removed from consideration.

Before appointment, the successful candidate must join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

To work in the United Kingdom, you must already have the correct permission to work, granted through the UK Visa and Immigration Service. Work entitlement will be checked during pre-employment screening, and you should confirm before applying that you either already hold the right to work or that the role can be sponsored.

The organisation offers flexible working and family-friendly policies, and it supports disabled candidates, people with long-term conditions, and neurodivergent applicants through reasonable adjustments to recruitment processes and practices.

NHS Scotland is committed to building a workforce that reflects equality, diversity and inclusion, and welcomes applications from all sections of society.
