Position Overview
This role is offered through a partner company seeking a Staff Accountant based in the United States. The position provides a chance to assist in the financial functions of an expanding professional services firm by ensuring precision, adherence to regulations, and operational efficiency throughout accounting activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage general ledger maintenance, prepare journal entries, and uphold accurate financial records.
- Assist in monthly and year-end closings, including account analyses and report preparation.
- Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, operating accounts, and client trust accounts.
- Support billing by invoice review, expense tracking, and aid in managing client accounts.
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable, overseeing collections and follow-ups on payments.
- Ensure compliance with trust accounting standards, relevant financial regulations, and internal policies.
- Prepare various financial reports such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and operational summaries.
- Oversee client retainer tracking and proper allocation of client funds.
- Analyze financial information, investigate discrepancies, and suggest corrective actions.
- Assist with audits, tax prep, and responding to financial documentation requests.
- Safeguard the confidentiality and security of sensitive financial and client data.
- Collaborate with attorneys, billing units, leadership, and other departments to support financial operations.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline preferred.
- 2 to 4 years of accounting experience, preferably within law firms, professional services, or similar sectors.
- Strong grasp of accounting principles including GAAP.
- Experience with ledger management, reconciliations, billing, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of legal billing systems and trust accounting is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software platforms.
- Familiarity with Clio, Elite, Aderant, or QuickBooks is a plus.
- CPA certification or progress towards it is preferred.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and client information.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with attorneys, finance teams, and stakeholders.
