Key Responsibilities

  • Steer the deployment and maintenance of ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems across the organization.

  • Communicate system requirements clearly throughout the company and update all ISO-related processes and documentation as needed.
  • Conduct routine Health and Safety inspections and audits, reporting observations to site management and offering expert advice on safety matters.
  • Assist site management in drafting method statements, safety action plans, and toolbox talks, while ensuring all required permits and equipment documentation are properly completed and filed.
  • Lead health and safety inductions for new hires and verify induction compliance across projects.
  • Guarantee reporting, recording, investigation, and closure of all incidents and accident reports, including preparing preventive proposals.
  • Manage safety statistics, benchmarking them against relevant industry standards, and contribute to the development of project-specific health and safety procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies concerning premises, transportation, and personnel, maintaining monitoring systems to uphold standards.
  • Compile documentation for safety file handovers and review/approve subcontractor insurance and paperwork, including handling PSCS documents.
  • Conduct risk assessments and method statements (RAMs), report both exemplary and problematic practices, and keep safety records updated.
  • Maintain certifications for plant and safety equipment (e.g., lifting gear, harnesses), registers for equipment and chemicals, and employee training records.
  • Coordinate PAT testing for electrical equipment in collaboration with the Yard Supervisor and process insurance claims with company directors.
  • Oversee PPE inventory management alongside the Stores Supervisor.
  • Participate in monthly management meetings to present and discuss company health and safety status and initiatives.
  • Arrange servicing and recertification for safety equipment like fire extinguishers, lifting machinery, and harnesses as necessary.
  • Attend site visits and meetings, schedule and monitor employee training sessions, organize SHEQ supply distribution, and manage emergency preparedness drills (fire, spill, etc.).
  • Review and update company health and safety presentations, site induction forms (ensuring GDPR compliance), policies (health & safety, environmental, energy management, and quality), and keep all legislative compliance up to date.
  • Research and evaluate health and safety training courses and provide necessary staff training and assessments (manual handling, fire warden duties, VDU safety, etc.).
