Senior Engineer - Transportation Systems

Job Overview

Lead engineering projects focused on autonomous mobility by planning, trialing, and enhancing smart public transport systems and infrastructure across Dubai. Coordinate technologies, trials, and multiple stakeholders to ensure autonomous mobility services are safe, efficient, and aligned with the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) strategies for future transport.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion autonomous transport initiatives consistent with Dubai’s Autonomous Transportation Strategy, overseeing scope, timelines, and deliverables.
• Develop executive and operational plans to launch smart public transit systems, including autonomous and innovative technologies, in collaboration with relevant departments.
• Incorporate advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Internet of Things into autonomous mobility to improve innovation, reliability, and operational performance.
• Prepare and coordinate Request for Proposal (RFP) documents for autonomous projects with procurement and finance teams, ensuring alignment with technical and strategic goals.
• Manage projects under RTA’s project management framework ensuring governance, risk management, and reporting compliance in line with future mobility vision.
• Assess research and studies on smart public transport with planning and business units, evaluating effectiveness and efficiency improvements.
• Organize and oversee major events, exhibitions, and global conferences related to autonomous and smart transportation including Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport and Dubai World Challenge, coordinating all planning and post-event analyses.
• Supervise autonomous mobility deployments across various vehicle types, addressing deviations and coordinating corrective actions.
• Conduct end-to-end trials on autonomous systems encompassing design, testing, safety validations, and performance evaluations.
• Facilitate experiments and development projects on autonomous and smart public transit solutions with partners and international research institutions.
• Work alongside developers, startups, public transport providers, manufacturers, airlines, and regulatory bodies on technical and operational aspects of autonomous systems deployment.
• Draft comprehensive bilingual (Arabic and English) reports consolidating technical, operational, and performance insights for internal and external stakeholders.
• Keep detailed project documentation, track milestones and deliverables through internal systems to ensure progress monitoring.
• Organize and execute awareness workshops on autonomous and smart public transit systems for employees and stakeholders, and propose future initiatives.
• Compose and review press releases pertaining to innovative and autonomous mobility projects, ensuring accuracy and alignment with RTA messaging in coordination with marketing.
• Evaluate autonomous vehicles’ performance from trial and operational data to identify optimization opportunities and risk areas.
• Operate primarily from an office and control center, attending field trials, test sites, events, and occasionally working extended hours during system deployments, testing, and demonstrations.

Education & Experience

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering. Candidates with a Master’s degree should have at least 3 years of relevant experience, or 5+ years if holding a Bachelor’s degree.
