Scientist II - Ecologist

Resource Environmental Solutions LLC (RES) seeks a motivated Scientist II to strengthen our ecological restoration efforts. The Scientist II will primarily engage in field and data activities that support restoration projects across varied ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare equipment and conduct field monitoring at wetlands, streams, and mitigation sites, collecting data using GPS units, YSI meters, turbidity sensors, and other specialized tools.
• Supervise junior staff in the field, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to quality assurance and quality control protocols.
• Manage and analyze field data; draft technical monitoring reports incorporating site plans and project-specific criteria.
• Collaborate with permit, design, and regulatory teams to support compliance documentation and project feasibility assessments.
• Apply scientific knowledge from hydrology, soils, and stream morphology to evaluate site conditions and regulatory constraints.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, geology, or related natural/physical science.
• Minimum two years of experience in ecological fieldwork, sampling, monitoring, or technical report writing; or one year plus an advanced degree.
• Proficiency with field sampling procedures, GPS/GIS technology, and standard ecological equipment.
• Ability to perform independent field data collection consistent with protocols and standard operating procedures.
• Competence in data analysis and technical writing relevant to ecological restoration projects.
• Working knowledge in key ecological disciplines such as hydrology and soils, with capacity to conduct functional assessments and calculations under minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements, project tracking, and environmental compliance tasks.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Experience or certification in ArcGIS.
• Drone pilot certification advantageous.
• Understanding and application of functional assessment methodologies like HGM (Hydrogeomorphic Method) and BEHI (Bank Erosion Hazard Index).
• Hands-on experience maintaining field instruments including multimeters and turbidimeters.

• Capability to mentor junior field personnel and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position in New York State is $61,000 to $75,000 USD.
