Job description

Position Overview

The City of Wagga Wagga is looking to fill three full-time permanent positions for experienced rural labourers at the Livestock Marketing Centre (LMC). These roles are essential in upholding the facility’s high standards for all users by performing outdoor cleaning, maintenance, and support tasks including manure removal, trough and fencing upkeep, paddock care, and general site tidiness. Selected candidates will also have opportunities to assist on sale days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various general labour tasks such as cleaning stock yards and facilities, maintaining gardens and lawns with mowing, whipper snipping, weeding, and irrigation work.
  • Apply weed control chemicals as needed and remove rubbish from the site.
  • Ensure the Livestock Marketing Centre and yards are presented at a high standard consistently.
  • Support scale and sale operations during sale days.
  • Operate and maintain plant, power and hand tools, equipment, and personal protective gear according to Council protocols.
  • Complete required documentation including safety paperwork and standard forms.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possession of a Class C Driver’s Licence is preferred.
  • Must hold a White Card for General Construction Induction Training.
  • Prior relevant experience involving tractor and mower operation, chemical application, and general rural labouring duties is essential.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, supported by effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compliance with Work Health and Safety mandates requires proof of Q-Fever vaccination.

Additional Information

  • Three positions are available with a remuneration package starting at $2,180.38 gross per fortnight, progressing to $2,616.46 gross per fortnight plus 12% superannuation.
  • The workweek consists of 40 hours with one rostered day off per month.
  • Employees are entitled to generous leave and ongoing development opportunities.
  • Pay rates for employees aged 15-18 comply with the Local Government (State) Award 2023, Clause 32 - Junior and Trainee Employment.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted according to role requirements.
