Job description

Position Overview

Gympie Regional Council invites current employees to join our Infrastructure Services team as a Road Sweeper Operator. This hands-on role primarily involves operating a road sweeper to maintain roads and infrastructure, while also participating in a multi-skilled maintenance team to assist with various civil construction and maintenance projects across the Council's road network and assets.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain road sweepers and other medium-complexity machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform labour-intensive duties related to the construction and upkeep of roads, drainage systems, stormwater infrastructure, and other civil assets.
  • Support Council’s maintenance and construction objectives by delivering high-quality work.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and work independently as necessary.
  • Utilize technology to enhance a mobile workforce and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Promote and uphold a strong safety culture by adhering to safe work practices, identifying occupational risks, and engaging in health and safety initiatives.
  • Respond professionally to operational requirements while fostering positive relationships with colleagues and the community.
  • Carry out additional duties appropriate to the role as needed.

Candidate Profile

Mandatory Qualifications and Skills:

  • Current Queensland MR Class Driver Licence or higher.
  • Valid Construction Industry White Card.
  • Proven experience operating medium rigid vehicles, tractors, and slashers on varied terrains.
  • Physical fitness capable of frequent manual tasks such as lifting, bending, and working outdoors.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to service excellence.
  • Dedication to workplace health and safety.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in civil construction and maintenance including roads, earthworks, pavements, drainage, stormwater, and concreting.
  • Certificate III in Civil Construction, Plant Operations, or equivalent.
  • Queensland HR Class Driver Licence.
  • Traffic Management Level 2 certification (RIIWHS302D Implement Traffic Plans).
  • Front End Loader competency (RIIMPO321F).
  • Chainsaw and Pole Saw accreditation.
