About The Earth Observatory of Singapore
Founded in 2008, the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University is a premier research center dedicated to studying natural environmental phenomena such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change, focusing on Southeast Asia. The institute boasts multidisciplinary expertise, cutting-edge geophysical and remote sensing technology, regional field-observation networks, and collaborative ties with academic and government bodies.
Position Overview
The EOS invites applications for a Research Fellow specialized in earthquake monitoring. The selected individual will lead innovative projects aiming to understand earthquake nucleation and propagation using advanced seismic source analysis techniques, covering both minor quakes in Singapore and moderate to large seismic events in Southeast Asia. Responsibilities include conducting independent and collaborative research, publishing in high-impact journals, mentoring students, and contributing to research grant development.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and refine advanced methods for earthquake source analysis.
- Analyze seismic data from Singapore and the surrounding region using developed techniques.
- Produce and disseminate scholarly articles in prominent international journals.
- Participate in drafting competitive research funding proposals.
- Provide guidance and support to undergraduate and graduate students.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree in seismology or solid geophysics.
- Minimum of two years’ relevant experience in earthquake monitoring.
- Strong familiarity with current literature and relevant seismic analysis software.
- Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Recent graduates with relevant qualifications are encouraged to apply.
