Position Overview
Barden is proud to assist a leading biotechnology company in recruiting a Research Associate to join their cutting-edge manufacturing site in Cork. This role involves conducting and documenting scientific experiments alongside cross-disciplinary teams, contributing to both commercial and clinical product lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Work under the guidance of scientists, project managers, and functional leaders to carry out specific procedures supporting lab-scale upstream processing in a multi-product laboratory setting.
- Rapidly acquire and demonstrate mastery of fundamental scientific methods, including batch, fed-batch, and perfusion techniques.
- Troubleshoot routine experimental challenges by adhering to standard operating procedures and batch production documentation.
- Produce precise and reproducible experimental data, maintain laboratory quality control by following safety protocols and SOPs.
- Conduct routine mammalian cell culture expansions and monitor bioreactors, including sampling and process analysis using standard bioprocess analytical instruments.
- Generate, review, and communicate raw data with colleagues and project leads.
- Maintain accurate and current records of all laboratory activities, ensuring proper storage and archiving as per Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
- Support upkeep and refinement of lab instructions, batch process documents, SOPs, and templates.
- Assist in equipment maintenance and calibration with thorough documentation.
- Contribute to assessments of new laboratory equipment.
- Proactively promote safety and continuous improvement in the laboratory environment.
- Adhere strictly to relevant GxP regulations, SOPs, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) guidelines, and other applicable standards within the laboratory.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a scientific or engineering discipline is required.
- At least one year of experience in the pharmaceutical sector or equivalent strong laboratory expertise is essential.
- Familiarity with microbial cell expansion and fermentation processes is advantageous.
- Knowledge of downstream purification procedures is a plus.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical regulatory requirements relevant to the level of responsibility and the cGMP manufacturing processes for biologics is necessary.
