Regional Chief Actuary, Asia

Overview

Join the CFO team in Singapore as the Regional Chief Actuary for Allianz Commercial Insurance covering the Asia Pacific region. This role involves working closely with the Regional CFO, the global actuarial team, and a variety of stakeholders to ensure actuarial excellence and support strategic choices across complex and varied markets in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, and Japan. Deep experience in commercial insurance is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and endorse actuarial opinions primarily for Singapore and potentially for other jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, India, South Korea, or Japan, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards.
• Lead the calculation and validation of technical provisions under multiple accounting frameworks, including IFRS 17, considering specific local demands.
• Work alongside external actuarial consultants and assist in audits for key regions.
• Deliver comprehensive analysis of reserving to support financial reporting, business planning, and risk management initiatives.
• Track and incorporate emerging risks and trends into reserving approaches to sustain strong balance sheet positions.
• Establish and maintain productive collaboration with external consulting firms to enhance internal actuarial methods.
• Partner with regional pricing and underwriting teams to integrate reserving insights into rate adequacy and portfolio decisions.
• Develop strong relationships with internal and external parties including regulators, auditors, consultants, and global actuarial peers.
• Lead innovation in actuarial processes by adopting technology and AI-powered data analytics to boost efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications and Experience

• Fully qualified actuary credentials such as FIA, FSA or equivalent, with authority to sign actuarial opinions in Singapore; additional signing rights or eligibility in Hong Kong, India, South Korea, or Japan are advantageous.
• Adherence to MAS guidelines for appointed actuaries in managing commercial risks and regulatory compliance.
• Minimum 10 years of actuarial experience focused on reserving within the Asia Pacific commercial insurance (P&C) sector; reinsurance exposure is a plus.
• Comprehensive knowledge of actuarial methodologies for complex, long-tail lines, as well as pricing, portfolio management, and risk-return analytics.
• Outstanding communication skills to articulate complex actuarial concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
• Fluency in English mandatory; proficiency in Asian languages such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Korean, or Japanese is highly beneficial.
• Strong collaborative skills to engage successfully with internal teams and external partners.
• Innovative and technologically savvy mindset with a keen interest in leveraging AI and data analytics in actuarial practices.
• Cultural awareness and experience working in varied multicultural environments across the Asia-Pacific region.
