Role overview
CoreFactor is hiring a Quality Engineer on a contract assignment for a client in the Greater Toronto Area. The position is hybrid, with on-site attendance required two days each week in North York, Ontario, Canada.
This role supports quality engineering across automation, manual testing, services, accessibility, and related areas. The position also involves maintaining the regression suite code and running it for every build before production release.
The role reports to the Manager or Senior Manager, Quality Engineering.
What you'll do
- Evaluate requirements, specifications, user guides, help content, and related project materials to confirm product and test quality.
- Support testing activities across the project team, including manual and automation work, UI testing, IVR/contact center testing, and services testing.
- Plan, coordinate, and carry out testing work to help ensure delivery quality is consistently high.
- Build and refine automated tests where needed, using modern techniques such as data-driven testing across API and UI layers.
- Investigate and fix script issues through detailed code review and adherence to coding standards.
- Create and run service tests using SoapUI or similar tools, including work with protocols and data formats.
- Maintain version control and configuration practices for test assets and environments.
- Record defects promptly and follow the agreed issue-management process as soon as a quality problem is found.
- Keep test execution updates current according to the team’s reporting process.
- Link test cases and outcomes to the relevant quality risks.
- Help prepare test status reports and metrics such as dashboards and release reports.
- Estimate task effort with confidence levels and note likely dependencies.
- Join weekly test team meetings and share progress on execution and development.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships within the test team and with other stakeholders.
- Take initiative to set and meet goals in a changing environment.
- Apply an understanding of testing within the software development lifecycle and project constraints while advocating for the best possible customer experience and product quality.
- Create and manage testing artefacts in the designated test management tool for regression and project teams as needed.
Requirements
- A university or college qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in software development and testing practices, processes, and methodologies.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with UI and mobile test automation, plus API testing in both manual and automated contexts.
- Experience setting up automation frameworks using tools and technologies such as TestNG, Jenkins, Maven, Node, or similar.
- Working knowledge of scripting for automation, including the ability to write and troubleshoot code.
- Experience with automation tools such as Selenium, Appium, WebdriverIO, or comparable platforms, along with a solid understanding of code structure and best practices.
- Practical experience using test planning and management tools such as JIRA and X-Ray, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, and related technologies.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD practices.
- Experience producing automation test run reports in JIRA and Confluence.
- Background in both Waterfall and Agile delivery environments.
- Understanding of project management, SDLC, and TDLC concepts.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, and MS Project.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-starter who learns quickly and adapts well to new technologies.
- Ability to deliver results with limited supervision.
- ISTQB certification is considered an advantage.
Work arrangement
This is a hybrid contract role with office attendance required twice per week in North York, Ontario, Canada.
