Purchase Engineer - HVAC Procurement

Overview

The role of the HVAC Purchase Engineer centers on acquiring HVAC equipment, materials, and related services essential for construction and maintenance projects. This position involves managing vendors, optimizing costs, technically assessing products, negotiating terms, and ensuring deliveries align with quality and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine HVAC drawings, BOQs, and technical specs thoroughly.
• Prepare and manage purchase requisitions, requests for quotations, and purchase orders.
• Procure a range of HVAC materials including chillers, VRF/VRV systems, AHUs, FCUs, ducting, diffusers, grilles, insulation, copper piping, valves, and accessories.
• Evaluate vendor quotes for both technical suitability and commercial factors.
• Handle negotiations related to price, payment terms, delivery deadlines, and warranty conditions.
• Liaise closely with project design and site groups to comprehend procurement needs.
• Build and nurture relationships with approved suppliers and manufacturers.
• Track purchase orders to confirm timely delivery schedules.
• Troubleshoot supply chain issues such as delays or quality discrepancies.
• Maintain comprehensive records including procurement documentation, vendor lists, and purchasing reports.
• Ensure adherence to corporate procurement guidelines and project budget constraints.
• Identify and leverage cost-saving avenues through alternative vendors and value engineering methods.

Eligibility and Qualifications

• Holds a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Has at least 1 year of experience specifically in HVAC procurement or MEP purchasing.
• Possesses strong knowledge of HVAC systems, products, and technical specifications.
• Familiar with procurement processes and supply chain management techniques.
• Experience collaborating with HVAC contractors, consultants, or MEP firms is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Proficient in understanding and working with HVAC equipment and components.
• Able to read and interpret HVAC drawings and specifications.
• Experienced with ERP software and Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
• Capable of conducting vendor evaluations and cost analyses.
• Skilled in analyzing BOQs and planning materials accordingly.
