Position Overview
The role of a Produce Clerk primarily involves ensuring that store shelves are stocked and organized to facilitate an easy, fast, and pleasant shopping experience for customers, fostering store loyalty. Full training will be provided for this role.
Primary Responsibilities
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and standards consistently.
- Welcome customers politely and professionally.
- Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with Safeway's programs.
- Stock dairy, frozen, perishable, and non-perishable items on shelves.
- Maintain and create merchandise displays following Safeway guidelines.
- Practice product rotation to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
- Load and unload merchandise for the sales floor efficiently.
- Manage inventory and backroom organization.
- Operate the cash register during busy periods as a relief clerk.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Store Manager.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- No prior experience necessary; willing to train motivated candidates.
- Ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail setting.
- Strong team orientation and motivation.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Excellent customer service abilities.
- Commitment to safety and responsible work practices.
- Flexibility to work varying hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Availability to be scheduled on Sundays (noted specifically for Alberta).
- Physical requirements include frequent lifting (up to 20 pounds constantly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds), frequent bending, walking, standing, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, gripping, and occasional crouching, kneeling, squatting. Some computer and point of sale usage may be required occasionally.
