Job description
Overview
Step into a pivotal community role as a Postmaster with Canada Post. Reporting directly to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager, the Postmaster champions and markets postal products and services to both residents and businesses within the local area. Acting as the public face of the Post Office, the Postmaster supervises staff and ensures the delivery of exceptional, community-focused postal services amid diverse priorities.
Key Duties
- Engage with community members to promote and explain Canada Post services and products.
- Market and sell postal products to individuals and businesses.
- Secure and provide appropriate premises centrally located within the community within 30 days of hire.
- Oversee post office operations to maintain retail hours and fulfill delivery requirements.
- Manage postal revenues, assets, and values with responsibility.
- Maintain accurate records and generate reports as required.
- Support efficient management of mail delivery routes and may sort mail destined for postal boxes.
- Supervise post office personnel when necessary.
- Ensure the post office remains clean, organized, and up to Canada Post’s presentation and cleanliness standards.
- Operate the post office with diligence and efficiency.
Qualifications & Physical Requirements
- High School Diploma or provincial equivalent, with additional experience in business administration considered an asset.
- Experience in retail or customer service environments involving sales and cash handling.
- Familiarity with postal mail processing regulations, methods, and service procedures.
- Capability to lift mail containers up to 50 lbs, operate mail boxes, sort mail, and stand for long durations.
Premises Responsibilities
- Premises must be fully accessible to persons with disabilities and be ready for review and approval at least a month before hire.
- Postmasters are responsible for all related premises expenses: rent or lease payments, heating, lighting, cleaning, general maintenance, snow removal, municipal taxes, and property/liability insurance.
- Service hours will be established by Canada Post and may vary as circumstances change.
Additional Information & Terms
- Priority will be given to transfer applicants who are members of CPAA located within the competition area, including term employees with continuous employment per the Collective Agreement.
- Total working hours are 15 hours per week: Monday to Wednesday 10:30-13:30; Thursday 13:00-16:00; Friday 10:30-13:30.
- A leasing allowance of $2,283 annually is provided to assist with post office operation costs.
- An annual supplemental allowance might be available to offset premises-related expenses.
- Appointments are contingent on adherence to the Canada Post Act.
