Plan Checker - Building and Safety

Position Summary

Responsible for reviewing various construction-related documents such as plans, agreements, proposals, and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and ordinances. The role also involves inspecting construction sites for upcoming projects and performing technical tasks pertaining to the assigned duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough plan checking by examining construction documents for adherence to established codes and approve plans as appropriate.
• Perform on-site inspections to verify compliance with approved plans and standards, offering guidance to contractors and architects regarding applicable codes and regulations.
• Coordinate plan review processes with other departments and communicate plans, comments, and specifications to relevant divisions or external consultants.
• Address inquiries from the public about construction projects, providing accurate information within the assigned scope.
• Participate in professional meetings to stay updated on advancements in plan examination and code compliance.
• Maintain organized records including log sheets and files to monitor ongoing projects and store approved documentation.

Additional Duties

• Compile analytical and statistical reports related to operations and activities.
• Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.

Experience and Education

An associate's degree in construction technology or a related field from an accredited institution is required. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in areas such as construction plan checking, building construction, construction contract management, or right-of-way permitting regulations. Relevant education and experience may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

This job involves working both in office settings and in the field, requiring travel between sites. Physical demands include the ability to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods as necessary to perform essential functions.
