Operating Executive Director

Position Summary

The Operating Executive Director oversees the organization’s everyday operating engine, making sure work runs efficiently, productively, profitably, and in support of long-term expansion. This is a senior leadership position that shapes operating plans, guides cross-functional teams, improves business workflows, and keeps day-to-day execution aligned with the company’s broader strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operating activities spanning departments and business units.
• Create and roll out operational policies, procedures, and plans that support organizational targets.
• Strengthen efficiency, output, and cost control by spotting and acting on improvement opportunities.
• Track KPIs and other operating measures to confirm business goals are being met.
• Work with executive leaders to design and execute strategic initiatives.
• Handle operating budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation to drive performance.
• Maintain adherence to company rules, regulatory requirements, and quality expectations.
• Identify operational exposure and put mitigation plans in place to protect business continuity.
• Lead change programs and continuous process-improvement efforts.
• Bring together cross-functional teams to ensure smooth delivery of business operations.
• Oversee workforce planning, people development, and performance management across operational teams.
• Assess and adopt technology tools that improve operating effectiveness.
• Develop strong working relationships with clients, vendors, partners, and other key stakeholders.
• Prepare operating reports and deliver performance updates to executive leadership and the board.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Management, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline is required; an MBA is preferred.

The role calls for 8–15 years of progressive experience in operations management, including senior leadership exposure.

Applicants should have a track record of leading large operational functions and coordinating cross-functional teams.

Strong knowledge of business operations, process improvement, and organizational development is important.

Experience with budgeting, financial review, and performance management is expected.

Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills are needed, along with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

The position also requires the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving business environment.

Preferred Skills

Experience with strategic planning and organizational transformation is a plus, along with familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, or similar operational excellence methods.

Strong project management and change management abilities are preferred, as is experience with enterprise systems and business process automation.
