Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Narrative Designer to join our team in San Francisco. This role demands a creative storyteller proficient in game writing and design to contribute significantly to one of our flagship mobile games. The selected candidate will collaborate with top industry professionals and oversee the narrative elements from conception through final delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and organize story concepts, character-rich scenes filled with detailed dialogue, and supplementary copy under tight deadlines, managing the process fully from proposal to completion.
• Effectively communicate the game’s narrative vision from Lead Designers to internal teams and external brand collaborators both verbally and in writing.
• Assist in shaping major overarching storylines for future game features, events, and significant content updates.
• Actively engage in brainstorming sessions by suggesting researched, on-brand story arcs and quests within the constraints of existing art and design resources.
• Integrate creative writing approaches that boost both narrative quality and monetization goals.
• Coordinate closely with Product, Design, Production, Art, and Animation teams to align all narrative aspects within free-to-play mobile business objectives.
• Iterate innovatively with precision across multiple revisions, incorporating feedback from internal teams and external partners.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of three years' experience in narrative design and game writing or equivalent expertise.
• Proven ability in scripting dialogue for extensive original and established character casts.
• Experience managing multiple branching storyline structures simultaneously.
• Familiarity with free-to-play mobile game design processes and awareness of current industry trends.
• Capability to handle numerous tasks effectively without sacrificing creative standards.
• Strong self-management skills for prioritizing duties in a dynamic, rapidly evolving creative environment.
• Exceptional proofreading and editing skills to ensure high-quality text output.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and interpersonal.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Harry Potter universe and related canon.
• Experience in serialized storytelling and screenwriting.
• Background in live operations (Live Ops) for games.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range is $55,000 to $78,000 per year, offered as part of a comprehensive benefits package including unlimited vacation, paid sick leave and holidays, full coverage of medical, dental and vision plans, life insurance, 401(k), flexible spending accounts, wellness programs, paid parental leave for 12 weeks, social events like happy hours and company gatherings, among others. This role is full-time and onsite at the San Francisco office.

Additional Information

Applicants must be located in the Bay Area or willing to relocate. Candidates will be required to complete a narrative design and writing test related to the Harry Potter franchise.
