Role overview
The Mechanical Technician will support the reliable running of the wastewater treatment plant by carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical assets. The role is focused on reducing downtime, protecting equipment condition, and ensuring all work is completed in line with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance work according to approved plans.
- Inspect, operate, and maintain pumps, motors, valves, sludge handling units, piping networks, and other plant mechanical systems.
- Perform regular checks to confirm equipment health and spot unusual operating behavior early.
- Identify mechanical faults, complete repairs, and replace worn or damaged parts as needed.
- Handle dismantling, reassembly, alignment, and installation tasks for equipment.
- Support upkeep of aeration units, mixers, conveyors, rotating machinery, and related systems.
- Apply lubrication tasks and monitor lubricant levels as per manufacturer guidance.
- Document maintenance work, equipment records, and repair details in the maintenance system or CMMS.
- Follow all HSE procedures, policies, and permit-to-work controls while performing maintenance activities.
- Keep the worksite clean, orderly, and safe, and use tools and equipment properly.
- Work with Operations, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams to support smooth plant performance.
- Take part in shutdowns, urgent repairs, and commissioning work when required.
- Complete any other duties assigned by the supervisor that are connected to the role.
Requirements
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or another relevant technical field.
- Prior exposure to wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants, or industrial maintenance environments is preferred.
- Working knowledge of mechanical assets typically found in wastewater treatment facilities.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and maintenance instructions.
- Strong fault-finding and mechanical repair capability.
- Hands-on skill with mechanical tools, measuring instruments, and maintenance equipment.
- Understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance methods.
- Strong commitment to HSE compliance and safe work practices.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team and work shift schedules when needed.
Additional information
This is a full-time, onsite position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role is with Alkhorayef Water & Power Technologies (AWPT).
