About the Role
The Sprouse Laboratory, part of the Psychology Program in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, is looking to appoint a Junior Research Scientist. This role focuses on investigating the syntactic mechanisms of Jamaican Creole, including grammar and the processing of long-distance dependencies.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to design and carry out experiments, develop language testing materials, recruit native Jamaican Creole speakers as participants, analyze experimental data, and assist with preparing research manuscripts. Additional administrative duties to support the project and laboratory activities will also be part of the role.
Candidate Requirements
Ideal applicants should have completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at NYU Abu Dhabi or hold a master’s degree with under five years of research experience. Essential coursework includes PSYCH-UH 2218 Language Science and PSYCH-UH 3612EQ Lab in Language Science. Candidates must have hands-on training with acceptability judgment experiments and neurophysiological techniques such as EEG or MEG. Proficiency in experimental design and syntactic analysis is critical, alongside native or near-native fluency in Jamaican Creole.
