What the job involves

The janitor is responsible for keeping the building clean, orderly, and safe. The work includes heavy cleaning tasks such as floor care, carpet shampooing, wall and glass cleaning, and removing waste.

• Collect and dispose of trash in line with approved procedures and infection-control requirements.
• Dust and damp mop floors using the correct methods.
• Move furniture and equipment as needed for proper cleaning, then return items to their original places.
• Clean assigned areas with the supplied tools and materials, including full sanitizing of surfaces and use of the eight-step cleaning process.
• Wash walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, and related surfaces to keep the environment clean and safe for students, visitors, and staff.
• Identify areas that need attention and take initiative to complete cleaning tasks.
• Carry out assignments given by the supervisor.
• Follow all applicable federal, state, and county requirements.
• Strip, scrub, buff, and refinish floors, and shampoo carpets when needed.
• Work cooperatively with the team and maintain a professional attitude with customers, coworkers, and others.
• Handle any other duties assigned to support operations.
