Job Overview
This role is one of four human resource specialists dedicated to managing payroll transactions that impact employee paychecks at the South Carolina Department of Corrections. The HR Coordinator handles payroll processing tasks including new hire data entry, termination processing for final pay, coordinating with state financial offices, and managing court-ordered deductions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Process and verify payroll-related data for new hires and employee terminations.
- Serve as a key liaison with the office of comptroller general and state treasurer's office to resolve payroll issues.
- Enter payroll information ensuring all data is accurate before payroll runs.
- Manage court-ordered paycheck deductions such as bankruptcy, child support, and tax levies.
- Provide employee assistance and answer payroll-related questions.
Eligibility and Requirements
The minimum qualifications set by the State of South Carolina and the Department of Corrections are as follows:
- Bachelor's degree coupled with relevant human resource experience, or
- Associate’s degree with two years of applicable human resource experience, or
- High school diploma with four years of related human resource experience.
