Health Support Specialist

Overview

This role is a para-professional healthcare support position serving clients under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), adhering to state and federal protocols. The position involves eligibility assessment, anthropometric and hemoglobin testing, benefit issuance, appointment scheduling, and nutrition education for low-risk clients. Responsibilities also include maintaining data security, performing voter registration services, and inventory management. The role may require travel between clinics located in Immokalee and Naples, Florida.

Key Responsibilities

• Determine client eligibility based on income, address, physical presence, and identification criteria.
• Conduct anthropometric measurements such as height, weight, and length, and perform hemoglobin tests as part of eligibility evaluation.
• Distribute program benefits including food packages and client identification cards.
• Assist clients in completing nutrition questionnaires and accurately document responses within the FL-WiSE data system.
• Arrange client appointments using FL-WiSE software.
• Provide second nutrition education contacts to low-risk participants utilizing newsletters and structured lesson plans.
• Offer voter registration services compliant with WIC program guidelines.
• Support inventory management for educational materials and equipment as assigned.
• Comply with immunization requirements, including annual TB assessment and protection against blood-borne and airborne pathogens.
• Contribute to organizational performance improvement and uphold departmental values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, responsiveness, and excellence.

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must possess a valid Florida driver's license and have dependable transportation.
• Completion of the Florida Nutrition Training Guide is mandatory.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and another language is required.
• Proficient keyboard skills and ability to learn and operate the FL-WiSE and other department software.
• Maintaining client confidentiality and effective professional interaction with clients and staff is essential.
• Ability and willingness to work outside regular hours or emergency situations, including responses to disasters and shelter duties.

Additional Information

The position requires a security background check, drug screening, and participation in direct deposit. Compliance with selective service registration is mandatory for male applicants born after October 1, 1962. The role involves emergency duties and exposure risks, with state-provided immunizations.
