Gardener Operator

Overview

The Shire of Broome is looking for a motivated and skilled Gardener Operator to join their permanent, full-time team located in Parks and Gardens. This role involves 40 hours a week with a nine-day fortnight roster and a salary of $84,000 inclusive of allowances plus superannuation. Role Responsibilities

• Perform horticultural, landscaping, irrigation, environmental, turf, and plant care activities across parks, reserves, streetscapes, sporting venues, and public open spaces.
• Carry out planting, pruning, mowing, edging, mulching, fertilizing, weed control, and garden establishment duties.
• Manage environmental maintenance tasks including weed suppression, revegetation support, and upkeep of natural spaces.
• Conduct basic irrigation system maintenance and repairs.
• Operate and maintain various equipment and machinery such as tractors, mowers, brush cutters, and turf care devices.
• Assist with arboriculture tasks including tree planting and maintenance.
• Safely handle and apply agricultural chemicals according to safety protocols.

Candidate Profile

• Applicants should be enthusiastic, self-driven, and cooperative team members with a readiness to work outdoors in Broome's tropical climate.
• Essential qualifications include prior experience in landscaping, horticulture, agriculture, or related fields.
• Capability to operate and carry out maintenance on relevant machinery and equipment.
• Physical fitness for outdoor work and holding a valid White Card.
• Possession of a C Class driver's license and willingness to obtain a Medium Rigid (MR) license.
• Preferably, candidates will possess a Certificate III or higher in Horticulture, Conservation Land Management, or comparable qualifications.
• Knowledge of local flora, pests, and weeds will be advantageous.
