Face to Face General Practitioner – Out of Hours Service, Oxfordshire

Role Overview

Join the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust's Out of Hours (OOH) Service in Oxfordshire as a General Practitioner providing urgent community care outside of typical primary care hours. This dynamic role involves delivering innovative, integrated urgent medical care primarily from 6:30pm to 8:00am during weekdays, as well as full coverage on weekends and bank holidays.

About the Service

The OOH Service is part of OHFT's Primary, Community and Dental Care Directorate, offering same day acute and urgent care close to or within patients’ homes as an alternative to hospital-based secondary care. The service functions through multiple base sites including Bicester, Banbury, Oxford, Witney, Abingdon, and Henley, with cross-cover opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, treatment, and management for patients seeking urgent care that cannot wait for routine primary care availability.
• Deliver face-to-face consultations in clinic bases, conduct home visits, and perform remote telephone consultations from Trust locations.
• Care for patients spanning from newborns to those requiring end-of-life care, with essential skills in managing acutely ill patients and identifying cases needing escalated intervention via primary care, community services, or secondary care.
• Offer senior medical guidance to non-medical practitioners within the multidisciplinary OOH team.
• Collaborate closely with other urgent care services offered by OHFT and support trainee GPs and non-medical practitioners through supervision and mentorship.
• Engage in clinical research activities and audits to enhance service delivery.

Requirements and Skills

• Qualifications and experience as a General Practitioner with a track record in urgent and acute patient management.
• Competence in palliative care and urinary catheterisation is advantageous, with opportunities for additional training available.
• Ability to work flexibly, including weekday evenings, overnights, weekends, and bank holidays.
• Strong communication and supportive skills suited to leading a multidisciplinary team.
