This position is part of a custom residential homebuilding and remodeling business. It is suited to someone who has already worked in residential construction estimating and understands the difference between an estimate that is truly accurate and one that only appears to be. The job calls for a careful, questioning approach, ownership of figures, and the confidence to stand behind the numbers produced.

What you will do

This is a hands-on estimating role focused on protecting project margins and preventing expensive surprises. The estimates you prepare will help keep residential projects profitable for the business and reliable for clients whose homes depend on accurate planning.

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for custom residential projects, covering materials, labor, scope, and build sequencing.
• Review drawings and specifications closely to spot missing details, inconsistencies, and other issues before they become costly problems.
• Work alongside project managers, builders, and trade partners to confirm assumptions and test pricing against real jobsite conditions.
• Compare estimated costs with actual outcomes over time and use that data to improve future pricing and assumptions.

What you should bring

The ideal candidate approaches estimating like an investigator: they verify rather than assume, and they keep digging when information is incomplete. Prior residential estimating experience is important, along with a solid understanding of construction materials, labor, and how residential builds progress in the field. Strong attention to detail is essential because this role depends on catching issues others may overlook.
