Role overview
An established civil engineering contractor is seeking an Estimator to strengthen its expanding commercial function. The business works across a varied project portfolio and has earned a strong reputation for delivering high-quality work for both public and private sector clients. With a healthy pipeline of work and long-term client relationships, typical project values are up to £2m–£3m.
What the role involves
Reporting to the pre-construction team, you will oversee the estimating process from the first enquiry through to tender submission.
Key duties
- Assess tender packs, drawings and specification documents.
- Prepare detailed pricing, cost plans and estimate schedules with accuracy.
- Seek out subcontractor and supplier pricing, then compare and assess the returns.
- Visit sites when necessary to gather the information needed for pricing.
- Spot risks, assumptions and potential opportunities within the project scope.
- Compile tender submissions and the supporting paperwork required.
- Work alongside operational and commercial colleagues during the bid process.
- Support negotiation activity and explore value-engineering options.
Candidate profile
The company would like to hear from Estimators with a background in Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, Highways, Groundworks or wider construction settings. Experience in estimating is important, but the employer is open to candidates from different estimating backgrounds and does not require experience with a specific estimating software package.
