Role Overview
The Environmental Coordinator will assist in providing consultancy services focusing on mangrove monitoring, conservation, and enhancement. The position involves significant fieldwork to implement baseline evaluations, monitoring protocols, and restoration activities for mangrove and terrestrial projects within Saudi Arabia and beyond. Responsibilities include managing field operations, logistics, data collection to support technical studies, reporting progress, and supervising restoration workers on larger projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct mangrove monitoring surveys adhering to established protocols, including measuring seedlings, trees, environmental parameters using sensors, and collecting samples.
- Carry out small-scale mangrove restoration tasks such as nursery management and planting.
- Organize labor coordination for extensive mangrove and terrestrial restoration works, ensuring technical protocol compliance and daily operations reporting.
- Plan and organize fieldwork, including activity scheduling, transportation arrangements, and preparing necessary materials and equipment.
- Lead field teams as necessary by assigning tasks, coordinating members, and acting as liaison with management.
- Provide training and knowledge transfer to junior team members.
- Use standardized forms to record field data, verify data quality, and compile reports to senior staff promptly.
- Implement and reinforce health, safety, and environmental policies during all field activities, including marine operations.
- Participate in other terrestrial and marine fieldwork tasks as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Strictly follow safety protocols during field and marine operations.
- Ensure environmental best practices and compliance with applicable national and international standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biological science, or a related discipline (fresh graduates welcome); OR
- Diploma in a relevant technical area plus a minimum of 2 years' experience in a directly related field.
- Fieldwork experience in mangrove ecosystems preferred.
- Skills in data recording and management.
- Experience working in remote locations is advantageous.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Skills & Abilities
- Physical fitness to operate in demanding field and remote environments.
- Effective, respectful communication abilities within diverse multicultural teams.
- Proficient English language skills are highly desirable.
Work Environment
This function operates in a fast-paced consultancy setting with tight deadlines, requiring adaptability and consistent delivery of high-quality work. Frequent presence in coastal, marine, and intertidal zones is expected.
