Role Purpose

The Environment, Health & Safety Officer is responsible for leading and overseeing all functions, resources, and procedures to ensure continuous and optimized production while maintaining workplace safety and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) strategies to establish a strong EHS culture and ensure effective policy and procedure enforcement.
  • Conduct or coordinate regular EHS inspections and assessments on the shop floor to verify adherence to legal regulations, company safety standards, and key performance indicators; identify improvement areas and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure all contractors, suppliers, and consultants observe organizational safety standards and comply with relevant legislation.
  • Promote accident prevention and encourage reporting of near misses to achieve safety objectives.
  • Support the accident investigation process by ensuring prompt incident reporting, identifying root causes, and following through on corrective actions until resolution.
  • Analyze incident data, including injuries, property damage, fires, and spillages, and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring risk assessments and developing safe working practices across departments.
  • Address safety and health concerns raised by employees.
  • Support Occupational Health & Safety Committee activities.
  • Respond effectively to fire and other emergency situations.
  • Enforce the correct use of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure environmental safeguards are in place with no pending environmental issues.
  • Maintain workplace safety through provision of required amenities and good housekeeping.
  • Conduct safety inductions for contractors and visitors on-site and verify safety during maintenance and non-routine work operations.
  • Monitor and ensure firefighting equipment is well-maintained and periodically serviced.
  • Support internal and external audits related to Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems, and supervise the implementation of corrective actions for continual improvement.
  • Organize and conduct training and induction programs for EMS and OH&S for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Safety & Health, EH&S Management, Engineering, or related fields.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a Safety, Health, and Environmental role.
  • Audit experience and familiarity or qualifications in ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards is preferred.
  • Experience working within the manufacturing industry is an advantage.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Capability to conduct health, safety, and environment training and inspections.
  • Strong technical understanding of processes, equipment, and operations.
  • Good grasp of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities with focus on corrective action resolution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication complemented by sound IT proficiency.
  • Business-minded professional with high integrity, teamwork orientation, and honesty.
