About Enphase Energy

Enphase Energy rapidly leads the global inverter market by integrating solar energy with advanced communication technology. Their microinverter systems significantly enhance solar panel productivity, reliability, intelligence, and safety, increasing energy output by up to 25%. This innovation is transforming solar system operations and the industry at large. Based in Christchurch, New Zealand, Enphase Energy cultivates a fast-moving, enjoyable work atmosphere full of innovative projects as they develop next-generation solar technologies.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist to support operations across New Zealand and Australia. The role spans two environments: the engineering and R&D site in Christchurch and the field operations workforce across Australia. In Christchurch, you will ensure legal compliance and promote safety culture among engineering and technical teams. For Australian operations, you will structure compliance documentation, provide corporate oversight, and facilitate ongoing safety training for field solar and battery installation crews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence at the Christchurch site to New Zealand’s Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, WorkSafe NZ standards, and applicable codes of practice.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, safety management systems, and risk assessments aiming for or maintaining ISO 45001 compliance.
  • Manage electrical safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout procedures, isolation processes, high-voltage testing, and serve as Radiation Safety Officer following full training.
  • Review and formally approve Workplace Health and Safety documentation frameworks for the Australian field workforce to maintain nationwide regulatory compliance.
  • Act as the primary EHS liaison for Field Service Technicians and Field Application Engineers across Australia.
  • Administer the SafetyCulture platform for field safety documentation, creating structured training and toolbox talks for field personnel.
  • Conduct risk assessments tailored to R&D activities, prototype testing, and solar and battery installations in both residential and commercial settings.
  • Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis techniques like ICAM and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Provide regular management reporting on EHS performance, compliance, and risk areas throughout Australia and New Zealand.
  • Collaborate with corporate and legal teams to maintain governance and approval processes for safety documentation.
  • Undertake periodic travel to Australia to fulfill role requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least six years’ experience in EHS, WHS, or OHS roles, involving fixed sites and multi-site or remote field workforce environments.
  • Solid knowledge of New Zealand HSWA 2015 or Australian WHS legislation; proficiency in one and eagerness to develop competency in the other is acceptable.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain EHS documentation, safety management systems, and risk assessment processes.
  • Experience conducting internal audits, risk assessments, and investigating incidents.
  • Self-driven and capable of effectively engaging and influencing remote and dispersed teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate regulatory compliance into practical guidance for both R&D technical teams and field workers.
  • Electrical expertise or strong understanding of electrical safety; possession of a Registered Electrician credential (NZ EWRB) or equivalent Australian qualification is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with SafetyCulture (iAuditor) or similar digital field safety platforms and experience with ISO 45001 implementation or audit processes are advantageous.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certificate IV or Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety are highly desirable.

Employee Benefits

  • Competitive remuneration including quarterly bonuses and stock options.
  • Long service leave entitlements.
  • Medical insurance coverage for employees and immediate family members.
  • Annual merit salary reviews.
  • A stimulating, fast-paced environment providing significant career growth and development opportunities.
  • Access to well-equipped laboratories.
