Role Overview

CNN is seeking a skilled Video Editor to join its Visual Investigations team. This role focuses on high-quality, craft editing with a strong visual storytelling approach, in line with journalistic and editorial standards. The editor will work collaboratively with producers and reporters, handling both long-form documentary content and rapid turnaround breaking news pieces. Key responsibilities include crafting graphic animations, applying color correction, and managing audio mixing within Adobe Premiere and After Effects.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit investigative video projects alongside producers, senior producers, and reporters.
• Create and incorporate graphic animations and visual effects.
• Work on a range of content from in-depth documentaries to fast-paced news packages.
• Participate in scripting, story development, production planning, and fact-checking processes.
• Employ editorial, technical, and creative expertise across editing, producing, design, compositing, and visual effects.
• Adapt working hours to meet production deadlines and fluctuating schedules.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience in a professional digital or streaming news environment, handling both investigative and breaking news video production.
• Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, emphasizing After Effects and visual effects plugins like Sapphire, Boris, and Red Giant.
• Strong editorial judgment and decision-making skills.
• Commitment to ongoing skill growth with current production platforms and emerging technologies.
• Collaborative approach working with team members on production tasks such as meetings, story development, scripting, and video research.
• Able to swiftly adapt in a fast-evolving, deadline-driven environment.
• Commitment to upholding CNN’s journalistic ethics, standards, and impactful storytelling.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, film, or a related discipline.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a salary range from $77,840 to $144,560 annually, with actual pay determined by market data, location, individual skills, experience, and performance. Additional compensation may include bonuses, incentives, and awards.
