The Varsity Tutors platform connects numerous students across Canada seeking expert tutors in Discrete Mathematics. This role offers the flexibility to create your own working hours, competitive pay scales, and the opportunity to profoundly impact students' learning—all from your home environment.
Compensation and Work Flexibility
- Compensation increases with continued tutoring of the same student, potentially reaching up to $40 per hour.
- Payments are processed twice weekly for timely remuneration of your tutoring sessions.
- You control your schedule, deciding how many sessions to conduct.
- All sessions are conducted remotely via a proprietary Live Learning Platform, eliminating commute requirements.
- Students are carefully matched with tutors aligned with their learning needs and tutor expertise.
- An AI-powered Tutor Copilot supports each session with real-time instructional assistance, lesson creation, and engaging learning tools to streamline preparation and enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Administrative tasks such as invoicing and payment processing are managed by the platform.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- In-depth expertise in discrete mathematics topics, including logic and proof techniques, set theory, combinatorics, graph theory, number theory, recurrence relations, Boolean algebra, algorithms, and formal languages.
- Ability to clearly explain mathematical induction, combinatorial counting principles, modular arithmetic, and tree data structures, preparing students for advanced topics in computer science, cryptography, and mathematics.
- Experience in deconstructing proof strategies such as direct, contrapositive, and contradiction methods.
- Competence in guiding students through combinatorial problems, graph coloring and traversal, recurrence solving, and applying the pigeonhole principle with an emphasis on logical reasoning.
- Familiarity with discrete math curricula challenges, including proof writing, differentiation between permutations and combinations, and terminology of graph theory.
- Adapts teaching techniques using visual aids like truth tables, Venn diagrams, graphs, and programming exercises aimed at undergraduate computer science and math majors.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills paired with an engaging and adaptable teaching style to suit diverse learning preferences.
