Director of Procurement

Overview

The Director of Procurement plays a pivotal leadership role tasked with shaping and executing company-wide sourcing, purchasing, vendor relations, and supply chain strategies for a collective of approximately 30 operating enterprises. Reporting directly to executive management, this position focuses on driving purchasing efficiency, cost reductions, vendor performance enhancements, and procurement uniformity while supporting the expansion initiatives of a private equity-supported group.

This role involves close collaboration with leadership teams across operating companies, finance, operational departments, and executives to maximize platform scale, secure advantageous supplier agreements, boost working capital, and instill procurement best practices within HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Generator service sectors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Formulate and deploy a comprehensive procurement plan that aligns with growth goals and private equity value creation strategies.
• Create category management tactics covering direct materials, equipment, indirect spending, and services.
• Implement governance structures, policies, procedures, and control mechanisms across the various operating companies.
• Identify and capitalize on opportunities to consolidate expenditures and utilize the platform's collective purchasing power effectively.
• Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with significant suppliers and manufacturers, including well-known OEMs and distributors like Lennox International.
• Lead negotiation of enterprise-wide contracts to realize cost efficiencies, elevated service standards, and favorable contract terms.
• Set and monitor supplier performance indicators emphasizing quality, availability, pricing, and responsiveness, while conducting periodic vendor evaluations.
• Handle supplier-related risk management, compliance, business continuity planning, and diversification strategies.
• Manage rebate agreements—volume, tiered growth, SPIFF, and co-op—ensuring complete tracking and reconciliation across the platform.
• Develop and oversee preferred-vendor arrangements, including Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) and consignment setups at branch and warehouse levels.
• Ensure adherence to preferred-vendor use and negotiated pricing to minimize off-program purchases and pricing discrepancies across operating entities.
• Drive initiatives to achieve annual procurement savings and enhance profit margins.
• Analyze spending behavior to unveil sourcing opportunities and operational procurement enhancements.
• Support merger and acquisition integration by assessing supplier contracts and applying procurement synergies.
• Work alongside finance to optimize inventory, cash flow, and working capital metrics.
• Manage commodity cost exposure relating to materials like copper, steel, refrigerants, including transitions such as to A2L refrigerant, tariff impacts, and supply chain stability.
• Streamline equipment platforms and SKUs across brands to lower carrying costs and standardize purchases.
• Evaluate and leverage group purchasing organizations against the platform’s purchasing leverage.
• Capture cost recoveries via warranty, core returns, and logistical arrangements.
• Collaborate with company presidents, general managers, and operations heads to harmonize local needs with enterprise procurement goals.
• Lead procurement integration for new acquisitions.
• Encourage best-practice exchange and procurement standardization portfolio-wide.
• Advise executive leadership on market trends, price pressures, supply chain risks, and supplier outcomes.
• Partner with marketing to manage co-op and market development funds linked to OEMs and distributors.
• Develop procurement analytics, reports, dashboards, and KPIs to monitor savings, compliance, supplier outcomes, and category expenditure.
• Implement and enhance procurement frameworks, systems, and processes.
• Establish purchasing controls and approval processes.
• Leverage data analytics for strategic sourcing decisions and demand forecasting.
• Ensure negotiated costs and preferred pricing accurately reflect in field pricing systems and price books like ServiceTitan to maintain correct transaction rates across branches.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Operations, or a related discipline.
• Over 10 years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, supply chain, or strategic sourcing roles.
• At least 5 years managing enterprise sourcing projects.
• Proven expertise in negotiating supplier agreements at the enterprise level.
• Strong knowledge of procurement operations within construction trades, distribution, industrial or facilities services sectors.
• Demonstrated track record of achieving quantifiable cost savings and improving supplier performance.
• Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships in decentralized organizations, with advanced skills in analytics, finance, and negotiation.

Preferred Credentials

• Background in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Generator, Mechanical Services, Building Services, or Industrial Distribution industries.
• Experience working in private equity-backed organizations.
• Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPM, CSCP, or CPIM are advantageous.
