Director of Performance Improvement

Overview

Horizon Health Corporation is recruiting a Director of Performance Improvement tasked with leading initiatives to enhance patient safety and healthcare quality. The role involves developing, executing, and evaluating improvement projects aligned with strategic goals to optimize hospital processes and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and direct the hospital-wide performance improvement program ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Educate staff on performance improvement principles and their application to patient care, including new hire orientation and ongoing compliance consultation.
• Implement systems for comprehensive data collection and analysis related to quality assurance and performance improvement across the organization.
• Lead participation in root cause analyses, failure modes and effects analyses, and support a culture promoting safety, engagement, and high reliability.
• Manage regulatory preparedness for accreditation and licensing surveys, including coordination of Joint Commission applications and post-survey action plans.
• Monitor quality measure compliance, conduct audits, and report findings, developing corrective strategies as necessary.
• Administer the Performance Improvement Committee/Quality Council by organizing meetings, preparing agendas, analyzing data, and maintaining documentation.
• Report hospital-wide performance results to medical staff and governing bodies on a quarterly basis.
• Carry out additional duties as required to support performance improvement and risk management functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing, social work, mental health/behavioral sciences, or a related field required.
• Preferred certifications include quality/performance improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
• At least 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in healthcare quality or performance improvement roles; minimum 5 years of leadership in hospital or behavioral health risk management preferred.
• Strong background in behavioral health, inpatient psychiatric, crisis, or emergency behavioral health settings is highly desirable.
• Proven expertise in managing quality metrics, regulatory compliance, and executing cross-departmental initiatives.
• Experience directing multi-site or multi-unit healthcare operations advantageous.
• Skilled in data analysis, project management, communication, and change leadership.
• Familiarity with Joint Commission accreditation standards and regulatory guidelines applicable to behavioral health services.
