Position Overview

The Director of North American Supply Planning leads comprehensive supply planning functions across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. This role focuses on timely, precise purchase orders, ensuring supplier accountability, optimizing inventory inflow, and aligning with Vallen's strategy for excellent inventory management.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage North American supply planning operations spanning the United States, Mexico, and Canada
• Guarantee accurate and strategically aligned purchase orders that minimize excess inventory while maintaining service standards
• Supervise supplier performance through scorecards, emphasizing operational efficiency, timely deliveries, fill rates, and quality
• Partner with various departments including Category Management, Demand Planning, IT, Distribution, Sales, Finance, and Supplier Partners for integrated operations
• Formulate approaches to decrease surplus inventory and enhance asset use
• Lead continuous improvements to drive operational efficiency and optimize supply planning
• Collaborate with IT, Operations, and Suppliers to influence inventory system enhancements for better planning accuracy and scalability

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related disciplines; advanced degrees are preferred
• Over 10 years of progressive experience in supply chain, purchasing, or inventory management, including leadership roles
• Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities with the skill to convert data into impactful business actions
• Familiarity with ERP and advanced planning tools like GAINS, SAP, Oracle, or equivalents
• Proven team management and leadership aptitude focused on staff development
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to influence across various organizational levels

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers regularly
• Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and occasionally stand or walk
• Must have the ability to travel between multiple work sites; typically requires a valid driver’s license
• May wear protective gear and be exposed to fluctuating environmental conditions during site visits
• Occasionally required to lift or carry up to 10 pounds
• Needs close vision capability and ability to adjust focus
• Extended computer use and repetitive keyboarding activities are part of the job
