Role Overview
The Director of Leadership Development is a pivotal position focused on cultivating the management skills and identifying high-potential talent within the commercial field organization. Reporting to the Senior Director of Training & Development, this role will spearhead the creation, implementation, and continual refinement of comprehensive development programs for field managers ranging from new managers to experienced District Sales Managers (DSMs).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead an all-encompassing development program for field managers, covering initial onboarding, core management competencies, and advanced leadership training for seasoned frontline managers.
- Create and administer a robust framework for recognizing and advancing high-potential field personnel, collaborating closely with HR and commercial leaders.
- Design curricula, facilitation materials, and learning tools suitable for in-person, virtual, and blended program formats tailored to field manager development.
- Work in partnership with Sales Leadership and HR to establish performance management practices, coaching methodologies, and assessment tools targeted at frontline managers.
- Manage the iCoach and ride-along programs by setting standards and governance to ensure consistent, high-quality field coaching.
- Integrate external leadership development resources such as 360-degree feedback instruments, coaching platforms, and personality assessments when beneficial.
- Assess the impact of development programs through pre- and post-training evaluations, analysis of field performance metrics, and participant feedback.
- Collaborate with the broader Training & Development team to align leadership development content with clinical, product, and sales skills training.
- Maintain awareness of emerging best practices in leadership development, adult learning theories, and trends in pharmaceutical commercial management.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees in organizational development, education, or related disciplines are favored.
- Over 10 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical commercial training, organizational development, or a related blend of expertise.
- Proven expertise in designing and facilitating leadership development initiatives targeting field managers.
- Preferred background in managing or coaching field sales managers within specialty pharmaceutical environments.
- Exceptional facilitation skills capable of engaging and developing leaders across various experience levels.
- Demonstrated track record of independently developing sustainable leadership programs.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on measuring learning impact and correlating development efforts with commercial results.
- Ability to build and nurture strong relationships with HR, field leadership, and commercial operations teams.
