Position Overview
This role involves creating and developing precise mechanical parts, optical mounts, and housings specifically for ophthalmic instruments by utilizing advanced 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Creo.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and prototype precision mechanical components with a focus on ophthalmic device applications.
- Carry out opto-mechanical engineering duties including designing lens barrels, implementing lens mounting methods, and conducting tolerance analysis to preserve optical alignment.
- Perform simulations such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to evaluate mechanical stress, thermal characteristics, and vibrations to assure product durability.
- Prepare and manage thorough technical documents like specifications, engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Ensure designs meet regulatory standards, specifically FDA 21 CFR 820.30 and ISO 13485.
- Work alongside manufacturing teams to refine designs for ease of manufacturing and assembly, encompassing injection molding, plastic components, and precision machining.
- Engage in risk mitigation processes through Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA/FMEA) to reduce operational hazards.
