About Gimlet Labs
Gimlet Labs is constructing the next wave of AI infrastructure with large-scale AI data centers and an orchestration platform that manages these resources. The emerging AI landscape demands significantly more compute capacity than currently available. Due to the increasing complexity of AI workloads and diverse new hardware architectures, just adding more GPUs isn’t sufficient. The core challenge lies in integrating diverse compute hardware effectively.
Gimlet’s platform optimizes workload distribution across varied hardware types, dramatically enhancing performance and efficiency. Clients deploy workflows using robust, production-ready APIs without worrying about hardware details such as selection, placement, or optimization. The company partners with foundational AI labs, hyperscale providers, and AI-centric organizations to operate large-scale production workloads and shape the future AI infrastructure layer.
Role Overview
Gimlet Labs is looking for Data Center Technicians to manage daily operations within its expanding data center network. This hands-on role involves physical data center tasks including equipment deployment and infrastructure setup. Technicians will be directly working with the physical systems that power Gimlet’s AI compute environment.
Key tasks include racking, stacking, cabling, labeling, validating, troubleshooting, repairing, documenting, and maintaining high-density compute infrastructure. The technician will collaborate closely with various teams such as Site Managers, Deployment Leads, Network Deployment Engineers, Logistics groups, vendors, and remote technical support teams. This position plays a vital part in transitioning capacity from planning stages to fully operational.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who values precise physical workmanship, operates with urgency, maintains excellent documentation, and wishes to advance within a rapidly growing infrastructure organization.
Responsibilities
- Install and configure equipment by racking, stacking, cable laying, labeling, deploying hardware, expanding sites, and conducting audits at current and future Gimlet locations.
- Diagnose and resolve issues in servers, GPUs, storage devices, network links, optical components, cabling, baseboard management controllers (BMC/IPMI), firmware, and Linux-based systems.
- Conduct repairs, replace components, support RMAs, perform hands-on testing, close service tickets, and handle routine operational upkeep.
- Maintain detailed records of assets, rack layouts, cabling documentation, inventory, spare parts, and site notes.
- Assist Network Deployment Engineers with network activation and validation processes including optics testing, cable path organization, patching, and interface verification.
- Adhere to runbooks, checklists, safety policies, and data center protocols while contributing to process improvements as the infrastructure scales.
- Update site leadership and deployment teams about operational status, challenges, risks, and provide evidence of task completion.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance windows, urgent site interventions, and offer on-call or escalation support as necessary.
Candidate Profile
- Experience as a data center technician, IT hardware technician, lab operations technician, field service technician, or infrastructure operations technician.
- Comfortable handling server hardware, rack systems, power distribution units (PDUs), copper and fiber cabling, optical components, labeling, cable management, and compliance with physical deployment standards.
- Methodical troubleshooting skills with precise documentation and closure of issues.
- Basic familiarity with Linux or command-line interfaces and experience working with BMC/IPMI, firmware, BIOS, PXE, or hardware validation processes.
- Commitment to clean, safe operations and enhancing data center documentation quality.
- Able to work in active data center environments including occasional off-hours maintenance or urgent repairs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing GPU clusters, high-performance computing systems, AI infrastructure, high-density compute environments, or large-scale server operations.
- Knowledge of fiber optics handling, structured cabling, optical transceivers, and patching in data center networks.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems, asset management platforms, inventory tools, data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software, or configuration management databases (CMDBs).
- Basic scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar languages for validation, inventory management, or operational automation.
- Understanding of colocation access rules, remote hands workflows, security protocols, and site acceptance procedures.
