Role overview
This position will oversee the global new product development portfolio from concept through launch. The role is based in Singapore and reports to the Senior Cost Manager. It works closely with teams across the UK, Singapore, and Malaysia, partnering with design, commercial marketing, engineering, procurement, operations, and finance.
What the role involves
- Own cost governance for NPD projects and help ensure products are delivered within profitability goals.
- Provide clear, timely analysis on product cost to support milestone reviews, financial checks, change control, and risk/opportunity tracking.
- Create cost estimates for new RDD initiatives and compare design options to identify the lowest-cost route.
- Help build a stronger cost-conscious culture by improving transparency and accountability across functions.
- Challenge stakeholders constructively so stretch cost targets can be met.
- Run the monthly reporting process for product cost movement and highlight emerging risks and upside opportunities.
- Support continuous improvement across data, processes, and team ways of working.
- Communicate urgency and accountability when cost issues need action.
Leadership and scope
- Lead cost management across the global NPD portfolio for the product category.
- Contribute as a member of the Project Leadership Team.
- May take on people management responsibilities in the future if the organization expands.
Skills and expertise needed
- Ability to translate strategy into practical execution plans with measurable KPIs.
- Experience with detailed should-cost governance to check supplier pricing and protect target cost.
- Understanding of manufacturing methods such as plastic injection moulding, metal extrusion/stamping, rubber over-moulding, and PCB assembly.
- Ability to apply value engineering to improve design efficiency and cost.
- Strong analytical judgment to turn cost data into actionable recommendations.
- Capability to assess cost-down ideas and compare make-versus-buy options.
- Confidence handling complex product design issues and influencing senior stakeholders.
About you
You should be comfortable working in a changing, globally connected environment with many stakeholders. The role suits someone who enjoys solving problems by aligning people with different priorities around a shared outcome. A background in engineering, manufacturing, or cost accounting is expected, along with more than 5 years of experience in product cost engineering. Prior exposure to transformation work, new processes, or new ways of working is important, as are strong communication and leadership influence skills.
