About the Role
Today’s Family, a dedicated not-for-profit organization supporting over 7,500 children and families across several regions in Ontario, is seeking a Cook to join their team at the MacLachlan Child Care Centre in Caledonia. This full-time, 18-month contract position requires preparing nutritious, appealing meals in a warm environment that supports children's growth and development. The job offers 37.5 work hours per week, starting as soon as possible through October 2027, with a starting wage of $24.62 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare fresh, healthy, and diverse meals and snacks daily for children and families within various program settings such as kitchens and community gardens.
- Comply with Today’s Family policies, Public Health regulations, and professional ethical standards to maintain high quality interactions and engagement.
- Collaborate creatively with families and colleagues to develop diverse menu options based on feedback and best practices.
- Create safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments in kitchen and cooking areas to promote a sense of belonging.
- Experiment with new cuisines and food preparation methods to enhance food discovery and engagement experiences.
- Engage with the Cooks Network to share ideas, refine processes, and support food literacy and security across programs and communities.
Candidate Requirements
- Knowledge and application of Canada’s Food Guide and Food Safety Standards.
- Experience in food preparation within hospitality, restaurant, or equivalent food industry settings, including cooking large quantities.
- Ability to manage food ordering and budget-conscious purchasing.
- Passion for working in settings dedicated to children, families, and community well-being.
- Up-to-date immunization records (including TB Test, Tetanus, Polio, MMR).
- First Aid and CPR-C certification and Safe Food Handlers Certification are considered assets.
- Recent Vulnerable Sector Check completed within six months.
- Valid driver's license required.
