Role Overview
The Commercial Manager for Supply Chain at Biffa plays a pivotal role in directing commercial operations, optimizing strategies, and overseeing governance within Specialist Services' supply chain. The goal is to secure cost-effective solutions, boost profitability, and support business expansion. This position involves managing supplier partnerships, disposal channels, pricing strategies, supplier onboarding, and commercial negotiations. It also focuses on identifying cost-reduction opportunities, streamlining the supplier network, and transitioning outsourced activities in-house. Collaborating with sales, technical, operations, and contract teams ensures effective commercial decisions, innovative solutions for challenging waste streams, and continuous enhancements across supply chain processes, performance, and compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Take lead in supplier and disposal site negotiations to secure optimal commercial value across various waste streams.
- Assess and refine the supply chain network to achieve cost efficiencies, standardize suppliers, and minimize supplier numbers.
- Oversee the onboarding, approval, and integration of new suppliers ensuring they meet compliance standards, capability requirements, and commercial criteria.
- Examine spending with third parties to spot opportunities for internalizing services and enhancing overall profitability.
- Support pricing strategies, tender submissions, and new business prospects via thorough market analysis and cost assessments.
- Formulate strategic supplier agreements and tailored waste stream contracts to maximize value and manage cost escalations effectively.
- Maintain stringent supply chain governance through robust supplier processes, compliance checks, audits, and systematic data management.
- Work closely with technical, commercial, and operational teams to devise solutions for complex waste streams and improve service quality.
- Provide commercial leadership while supporting stakeholders and driving initiatives that foster supply chain performance improvements and business growth.
Required Skills and Experience
- In-depth knowledge of supply chain management within the waste management sector.
- Familiarity with rebate systems and commodity partner engagements is advantageous.
- Understanding of partnerships within Construction & Demolition waste management preferred.
- Experience with hazardous waste suppliers and disposal methodologies.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Power BI for data analysis and reporting.
