About the Role
The Association of Test Preparation, Admissions, and Private Tutoring (TPAPT) invites experienced college admissions coaches to guide students from grades 9 through 12 in their college application and essay preparation process. This role involves supporting families remotely with tailored strategies for successful college admissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold monthly, bimonthly, or weekly virtual meetings with students and parents to devise and assess personalized college admissions strategies.
- Create balanced college lists aligned with each student's aspirations, background, and interests.
- Offer detailed support and feedback on college essays.
- Develop application timelines and strategies including Early Decision (ED) 1 & 2, Early Action (EA), and Regular Decision.
- Help curate and refine students' activity resumes.
- Coordinate requests for recommendation letters.
- Coach students for admissions interviews.
- Advise on campus visits and tours planning.
- Oversee and coordinate academic, standardized testing, and extracurricular schedules.
- Guide students through independent projects.
- Maintain updated notes following every session.
- Assist families in reviewing and comparing college admission offers.
- Ensure open and consistent communication with students and parents to offer continuous support throughout the admissions journey.
Requirements
- Possession of at least a Bachelor's degree.
- Availability to work between 4 to 10 hours weekly.
- A minimum of two years' experience as one of the following: Associate Dean or Director of Admissions at a US four-year college/university, College Prep Guidance Counselor, or Individual Independent Educational Consultant (no firms).
- In-depth expertise on admission standards for competitive institutions including Little Ivies and lesser-known selective colleges.
- An empathetic and outgoing personality with solid relationship-building capabilities.
- Outstanding writing skills.
- Self-motivation with ability to work independently.
- Meticulous attention to detail coupled with excellent project management skills.
- Proficiency using web conferencing tools, document sharing, virtual lesson delivery platforms, and scheduling software.
