Job Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Band 3 Clinical Trials Assistant position within the rheumatology research team. This team manages research across a variety of rheumatology conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, and Sjogren's syndrome. The role reports to the Band 7 rheumatology team leader and Band 8 clinical research facility matrons.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the conduct of clinical research studies by offering clinical and administrative assistance.
• Continuously update clinical knowledge and skills to ensure high-quality care for research participants.
• Undertake clinical duties within competency such as venesection, measuring blood pressure (manual and electronic), recording ECGs, and assessing anthropometric data like height and weight.
• Work primarily Monday to Friday during core hours but remain flexible to accommodate extended hours, weekends, nights, and travel to various Southampton-area locations as needed by specific studies.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

• Qualifications equivalent to A Level or NVQ3 in a relevant subject.
• GCSE Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and willingness to engage in further training.
• Experience handling data and an interest in clinical research.
• Ability to operate both independently and as part of a team without direct supervision.
• Understanding of confidentiality requirements and capability to work in an open-plan office environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel within the Southampton area.

Desirable Attributes:

• Higher education qualifications such as a degree or equivalent.
• Prior clinical research experience.
• IT-related credentials.
• Training in ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
• Experience in NHS or related healthcare settings.
• Venesection skills or readiness to acquire them.

Additional Information
