Job Description

The Clearing and Forwarding Agent will oversee comprehensive customs clearance and forwarding tasks related to imports and exports, ensuring adherence to Tanzanian laws and international trade protocols. Based full-time in Dar es Salaam, the role requires preparing and submitting required customs paperwork, liaising with port authorities, shipping companies, and transport providers, and tracking shipments to guarantee on-time delivery. Responsibilities include verifying commercial invoices and packing lists, determining tariff classifications, calculating applicable duties and taxes, and addressing discrepancies or concerns with regulatory organizations. Daily duties involve communicating shipment progress to clients, maintaining precise records, and proactively managing any delays or operational issues. Additionally, the agent collaborates with internal departments to optimize workflow and uphold excellent customer service standards.

Candidate Qualifications

• Proven understanding of customs procedures, import/export regulations, and necessary documentation within Tanzania.
• Experience in coordinating activities between shipping lines, transportation firms, port authorities, and regulatory bodies involving clearing and forwarding operations.
• Competence in maintaining records, entering data, and utilizing logistics or customs management software effectively.
• Accurate capability to compute duties, taxes, and applicable charges, with meticulousness in tariff classification and valuation.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills enabling professional engagement with clients and stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills to oversee multiple shipments and meet deadlines concurrently.
• Problem-solving aptitude along with the ability to function efficiently under pressure in a fast-moving operational setting.
• Previous experience in clearing and forwarding, logistics, or supply chain roles is highly preferred.
• Educational background including a diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related disciplines is advantageous.
• Fluency in both English and Kiswahili languages, with solid knowledge of standard office software.
