Role Overview

This position is a full-time, onsite job located in Edmonton, Alberta, for a civil engineer with a structural focus. The role blends responsibilities as a project manager on specific projects and as a lead design engineer on others.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design efforts and manage select projects, handling planning, design documentation, engineering calculations, and standards preparation.
• Oversee quality assurance and quality control activities and provide guidance on complex assignments.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, consultants, and technical personnel.
• Travel to field locations and attend meetings with clients as necessary.
• Act as a subject matter expert for projects and during project cost estimating.
• Drive continuous improvements in operational efficiency, safety, and project performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster their professional growth.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to deepen industry knowledge and expertise.
• Identify and implement enhancements related to quality, cost-efficiency, and safety standards.
• Carry out structural engineering tasks including design, analysis, calculation, drawings, and specifications for concrete and steel frameworks.
• Modify and develop industrial structures and systems across multiple projects as required.
• Interface with clients, suppliers, and construction teams throughout all stages of the projects.
• Apply independent engineering judgement with adaptations for minor changes.
• Prepare comprehensive conceptual and detailed designs, specifications, drawings, and technical calculations.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams for plans, elevations, and design documentation.
• Implement structural engineering principles complying with applicable codes and standards.
• Incorporate considerations such as construction costs, environmental impacts, regulatory compliance, and risk evaluations into engineering work.
• Interpret and apply relevant local, provincial, and international building codes.
• Specify materials, review supplier documentation and test reports for compliance and quality assurance.
• Present technical data clearly to stakeholders for review and execution.
• Perform material quantity take-offs and provide cost estimation support.
• Work primarily from an office environment with the necessary communication and physical abilities to perform field visits.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering.
• At least 10 years of experience in industrial civil and structural engineering.
• Strong communication and presentation skills are essential.
• Expertise using engineering software such as STAAD Pro and RISA.
• Willingness and ability to travel for site inspections and assessments.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification.
• Competency in software including MS Office, AutoCAD 2D/3D, Bluebeam, NavisWorks, SPMats, and Enercalc.
