Animal Control Officer

About the Role

The Animal Services division of the City of Pearland is seeking an Animal Control Officer dedicated to the care, protection, and sheltering of animals. Our team of ten professionally trained staff members work passionately to serve the community, educate the public on animal care, provide disaster support for residents and their pets, and promote pet adoptions.

Job Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to calls and service requests related to animal control.
• Provide courteous customer service by answering phones and assisting visitors and citizens.
• Care for animals housed in the shelter, including kennel duties, office assistance, and facility cleaning.
• Educate the community about responsible animal care practices.
• Fulfill public safety responsibilities such as managing quarantine protocols and handling bite reports.
• Operate and maintain a work vehicle responsibly.
• Enforce local ordinances pertaining to animal control.
• Perform humane euthanasia with skill and sensitivity to minimize animal distress.
• Support team members in various tasks as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or an equivalent qualification is mandatory.
• A minimum of three months experience in handling animals is required.
• Basic Animal Control Officer and Euthanasia certifications are preferred; however, training will be provided for the right candidate.
