Job description
Role Overview
Based at either the Brindley Park or Opal Creek feedlot, the Agricultural Technician position is embedded within a collaborative team setting, offering diverse responsibilities centered on maintaining animal health, nutrition, and welfare consistently.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and induct animals entering the feedlot environment.
- Continuously monitor animal health conditions.
- Administer medications to ill animals when required, following consultation with veterinary professionals.
- Ensure precise record-keeping and data input for animal movements, feeding regimens, treatments, and operational processes.
- Collaborate with animal nutritionists to guarantee accurate and sufficient feeding rations tailored to achieve target finishing weights.
- Deliver feed according to allocation plans to support desired finishing outcomes.
- Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks on equipment as necessary.
- Operate heavy machinery including, but not limited to, front-end loaders, feed trucks, and skid steers.
- Conduct safe and effective pen riding activities on horseback.
Candidate Requirements
- Possession of an AQF Advanced Diploma or an equivalent qualification, or alternatively a minimum of three years’ relevant work experience.
- Proven expertise in cattle handling and livestock management.
- Competent and safe horse riding skills.
- Proficiency in operating machinery, plant, and equipment in line with safety standards.
- Strong ability to detect early signs of animal health issues accurately and promptly.
- Capable of performing animal health protocols, including the safe administration of treatments and medications.
- Good numeracy and literacy capabilities.
- Keen attention to quality assurance and compliance protocols with meticulousness and precision.
- Familiarity with computer operations and comfortable with keyboard use.
Compensation and Additional Information
The role offers a base annual salary ranging between $79,500 and $85,500, complemented by superannuation benefits along with opportunities for continuous training and professional development.
